Option 1: Public Bus ( Works all months)
- Kathmandu to Panauti
- Take a bus from Ratna Bus Park (in front of Bir Hospital) to Panauti.
- Buses are available every 5 minutes.
- Take a bus before 1:00 pm.
- The journey takes about 1.5 hours and costs 95 rupees.
- Panauti to Dhunkharka
- At Panauti Bus Park, take a bus to Dhunkharka.
- Contact Kushal at 9841103670 for assistance.
- The last bus leaves at 5:00 pm.
- The journey takes about 1.5 hours and costs 90 rupees.
- Dhunkharka to Mt. Mahabharat Homestay
- Get off at Dhungkharka Geldung Bazaar (town center).
- You will be met there, and you’ll walk uphill for about an hour.
- If you have heavy baggage, inform them in advance to arrange for a motorbike to carry it.
Option 2: Direct Public Bus ( Those who wish to take this option should contact the host for assistance)
- Take a direct bus from Ratna Bus Park to Dhunkharka.
- Buses run from 7:00 am, and then every hour from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- The journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours and costs 170 rupees.
Option 3: Taxi (Recommended only from October to June)
- A taxi from Kathmandu to Mount Mahabharata Homestay costs 3500 – 4000 Nepali Rupees (one way).
Note 1 : During the rainy season, taxis may not reach the homestay directly, requiring a 30 to 45-minute walk.
Note 2 : It has been found that most taxis drop off guests without delivering them to their destinations for various reasons, so it is recommended to contact the host when dealing with a taxi.
Option 4: Private Vehicle Pickup / Mountain Jeep ( Forever)
- A private jeep can be arranged for USD 55 (one way) from Kathmandu or the airport.
Note : The jeep will be arranged by Host.
Option 5: Ride-Sharing Apps (Pathao or InDrive)
- Download Pathao or InDrive app on your phone.
- Book a car taxi or motorcycle ride directly to Mount Mahabharata Homestay through the app.
- This option may be cheaper than others.

Special information: Due to the incessant rains (natural disaster) that occurred on September 26, 27, and 28 of last year, the roads and tourist trails in the Mount Mahabharata and Bethanchok areas have been damaged and become uncomfortable. It is recommended to take precautions while traveling, especially during the rainy season, and to complete the journey by noon.
